  • 1.  Migrate vm from vSAN

I'm having trouble migrating VMs from a VMware vSphere 7 vSAN cluster to a standalone ESXi host.

We no longer need vSAN, and a single standalone ESXi host with local storage will be sufficient for this environment.

The standalone ESXi host does not have shared storage. When I try to migrate a VM from the vSAN datastore to the standalone host, the migration fails with an "incompatible storage" error.

What is the best way to migrate VMs from a vSAN datastore to a standalone ESXi host with local storage?

Can a VM be vMotioned from a vSAN datastore to a standalone ESXi host with only local storage? If so, how?

Has anyone done this before? If so, what method did you use? If direct migration isn't possible, is backup and restore the recommended approach, or is there another supported migration method?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
