Has anyone in the community upgraded/tested macOS Sequoia 15.7.1 with VMware Fusion Pro 13.6.4 on M2/M3 hardware? Any issues specifically running Win11?

I have that combination but on a M4 Pro. Windows 11 ARM used for software deveopment - no specific issues. I can't say about M2/M3 though.

I'm running Windows 11 25H2 (Build 26200.6725) on a Mac Mini M2 with 26.0.1 and 13.6.4 without problems (besides the VMware Tools features missing since long). I have no experience from 15.7.1, I went straight on from 15.7 to 26.0. Do you have any specific reason not upgrading to Tahoe? If you are in doubt, I suggest that you create a separate APFS volume and install 15.7.1 or even better 26.0.1 there, to convince yourself that everything is working.

I briefly used the Fusion/Sequoia 15.7 conimation withou issue before upgrading to Tahoe on my M1 Mac mini.

In general, Fusion appears to mostly work on Tahoe. It is not officially qualified by Broadcom for use on Tahoe, so use it at your own risk.  There is one reported bug here in the forum where the Fusion GUI will orphan a VM (GUI crashes but VM is still running in the background) when the Mac goes to sleep or the screen locks. That can be worked around, but can be annoying.

Installing and "Dual booting" two different versions of macOS is not as straightforward a process as it was in years past - especially with T2-equipped Intel Macs and Apple Silicon Macs. I suggest doing extensive research on this before deciding to do it (I personally recommend Howard Oakley's discussions over at The Eclectic Light Company (https://eclecticlight.co).

    HI All,

Thank you all for your replies. They were helpful. Based on your feedback, I just updated my M3 MBP to macOS Sequoia 15.7.1 and I'm not seeing any issues with VMware Fusion Pro 13.6.4 running Win 11 Pro 24H2.

I'm nervous to upgrade to Tahoe as I have 2 mission critical windows apps that I cannot afford not having operational. I will wait until Broadcom provides a VMware Fusion Pro update that officially supports Tahoe and does not have a crash type issue.

I am curious what is the workaround?

    Thx!

The workaround has been discussed in other posts in the community. It involves using the vmrun command to identify the orphaned running vm and suspending it. Then the GUI can be restarted and the VM resumed.

15.7.1 with VMware Fusion Pro 13.6.4 is a great stable combo.

MacOS Tahoe is garbage imo, **** ui, stuttery, glitchy, horrible.

VMWare 25H2 has issues with pointer size / pointer offset atm, maybe will be fixed sometime.

Separate but related, the UTM virt software on Mac ("Universal Turing Machine") is a great way to try out the Tahoe garbage in its own vm. Requires a couple of addl steps:

    • Download a Tahoe installer image from https://ipsw.me/product/Mac
    • Install Xcode and then manually install a package located inside the Xcode bundle:

      /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Resources/Packages/MobileDevice.pkg

(without this pkg Tahoe will not install inside a UTM VM)

Dual booting is fully supported by Apple, see following instructions:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/118282
Dual booting is inevitable if you want to test Beta versions and before doing a major upgrade. I have done so for years without flaws.
The T2 security settings must be lowered only if you intend to install an old macOS version, no longer suppported. If that is needed you can do so by booting into the recovery menu. This is described in detail on the Apple support site.

You must download a macOS installer from Apple, it is not possible to use OTA with System settings "Program update" in this case. I recommend the Mr. Macintosh site that have all the links you may need:
    https://mrmacintosh.com
This database contains download links for full Installer pkg files (InstallAssistant.pkg). This file is the same full installer that you would download directly from the App Store for Intel and Apple Silicon M1/M2/M3/M4 Mac Computers. The InstallAssistant.pkg is stored on Apple's servers and contains the full "Install macOS.app". Once downloaded, all you need to do is install the .pkg and the full installer of macOS will be in your applications folder.
To dual boot to a lower version you must create a bootable installer on a USB stick. You may Google for instructions on how to do that.

I have a Win 11 arm64 virtual machine installed on the same version, but it restarts after a while. The logs are available. Is there anyone who can help?
