  • 1.  Loose ability to browse file shares after vMotion

    Posted Oct 21, 2015 05:52 PM

    A little setup info.

2 ESXi hosts: HostA & HostB

2 physical switches (both connected on same subnet, vlan, all connected to the same core switch: SwitchA & SwitchB

    1 VM in question: FileServerVM

FileServerVM is running on HostA, which is physically connected to SwitchA.  (HostB is physically connected to SwitchB).

I vMotion FileServerVM from HostA to HostB.  So far so good.  Can communicate with FIleServerVM just fine via anything I try except file shares.  When I try to access a mapped drive on FIleServerVM it fails or if I just brows to \\FileServerVM\ it fails.  If I vMotion FileServerVM back from HostB to HostA, everything suddenly starts working again.

Has anyone run into this before?  Any suggestions?

    Hi,

What is your file server OS and edition? Also which ESXi version has been installed on your servers?

Anything in the Logs on your FileServerVM?  How is NTP set up on the hosts, in relation to the time on your DCs?

FIle server is Win2008R2, ESXi is 5.5 Enterprise.  Will double-check logs on VM.

Found the problem.  The vSwitch on HostB has multiple physical NICs assigned to it.  One of them was connected to a improper VLAN.
