  • 1.  L2 switch with ESXi 7

    Hi,

I have a 2 node ESXi connected to 1 vCenter. Both the hosts are connected to a physical l2 switch. There are 2 main networks, PN1 and PN2 of different network. One network is connected to one switch and the other is connected to another switch. The switches are not interconnected.

Both the Network adapters are connected every VM as redundancy. When disconnecting PN2 network from ESXi-->edit VM settings option, the IP of the port is still able to ping from another VM which resides on the same host. On trace route, tt reaches the PN1 first and then reaches PN2 IP. When disabling the ethernet adapter (PN2) from the VM, the ping stops. When disabling both the adapters of the VM, ping stops.

Unable to find, where the problem lies.

A picture tells a thousand words, if you're able to draw out the connectivity and show the vSwitch configuration of the ESXi hosts...

Got it,  please bear with my drawing.

The connectivity goes like this. The VM' have same both networks assigned to them. However when disconnecting one of the adapter, the disconnected adapter's ip is still reachable from other VM.

When tracerouted, it shows the PN1 adapters ip as first hop and then the PN2 IP as second hop.
