I just installed vShpere 4.0 a few weeks ago. It was working fine until I shutdown the server for a few days. Now when I boot, it gives me: "[http://75.069279|http://75.069279] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0)." The server just hangs. Of course, I had not setup backups yet. Is there a way to boot from the install DVD and recover from this? Fingers crossed...

That did it - what a huge relief! It booted. If only I knew what it happened in the first place...

glad to see you got it resolved

    taken from the KB article:

The most common reason why this occurs is due to a misconfiguration of the boot parameters or a change in drivers which did not get updated correctly

That did it - what a huge relief! It booted. If only I knew what it happened in the first place...
