  • 1.  inbound packet loss after FT failover

    Posted May 19, 2010 06:39 PM

    I'm testing FT in my cluster (bl460 g1, xeon X5450's), flex-10 networking.

My question is- When I initiate the FT failover, I have one ping timeout during the failover process (expected), and the secondary VM outbound pings never blip (also expected). I would guess this to be non-impacting to any services that might be running on the VM because the VM never loses a step even though an inbound packet times out.

However, after the failover, every 10-15 seconds I see two packets lost inbound to the VM. Same ICMP timeout, but outbound from the server doesn't miss a beat. Also note the VM console locks up for several seconds. In the VM's event log, i see "vCenter cannot start the Secondary VM vmname Reason: Cannot complete migration for the Secondary VM"

It feels like something that might be a common misconfiguration, so maybe someone has seen this before and has some advice?

    TIA,

    Chris-

Figured this one out incase it helps anyone else- There was an IP address conflict on the FT nic of the host it was failing over to.
