  • 1.  importing ovf image in esx

    Hi

I have an ovf image which has thin disk of 100 Gigs. The thin disk is actually occupying 10 gigs only. When I import it to ESX which doesn't have 100 gigs of free disk space, ESX doesn't allow to import that OVF image.

Is there a solution to this problem?

Try to use VMware Standalone Converter to import the disk as thin disk.

Is it possible without a VMware converter ?

Yes... but in this case the disks will be created in the default mode (thick).

PS: VMware Standalone Converter is free...

Thanks Andre. But can you let me know how can w do that without Converter to import OVF image even if the disk space is not sufficient on ESX.

if you don't have sufficient disk space to store the guest, then you shouldn't import anything until you free up atleast 20% of space on the destination LUN. Remember just because it's thin, you still need to space allocated to allow it to grow to it's maximum size.
