HUGE .vmdk dumb question!

Using a 3rd party tool I'm trying to P2V a server and increase its 2nd .vmdk to 270GB on a LUN with 600+ GB free but I am unable to create it......it will only allow me to create a .vmdk of 256GB......

This LUN has 16 other VM's on it varying in size from 20 to 60 GB, none this big....

I did not anticipate a VM this big....therefore have I have made an error in the LUN config in orginal setup with block sizes? can this be amended on the fly....

Your LUN is probably formatted with a block size (I think its 1MB) that only allows a max file size of 256GB.

To correct this you have to reformat the LUN - I know you wanted to hear something else

exactly, 1MB blocks give you a 256GB max vmdk file. You must create it in 8MB blocks to allow you a 2TB file.
