  • 1.  HP ProLiant BL680cG7 and Host Cache on local SSDs

    Posted May 21, 2012 07:10 PM

    Hi Community,

At the beginning of the installation of a HP BL680cG7 blade, the ESXi 5 installer shows me the local configured SSD drives as "remote storage".

    Very interesting :smileyhappy:

Here is a KB Article about that:

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1027819

    Or:

    http://communities.vmware.com/message/1687257

    But now my problem:

After finishing installation, I can´t enable "Host Cache", because the local configued SSD are shown as "Non-SSD" Drives??!

Have anyone an idea, why I cannot use the local SSDs for Host Cache?

    Are HP SAS-SSDs not supported??

The SSDs are default host-pluggable drives from HP, 200GB.

    Thanks, Jo!

If it's possible check bellow links and if needed you can run required commands from "Tag Devices as SSD"

ESXi fails to identify a device as SSD (KB2008938)

    Unrecognised SSD in vSphere 5

    Yea, perfect...

VMW_SATP_LOCAL with the enable_ssd option was the solution. :smileyhappy:

    Thanks!
