    Hi,

I have a Hp Proliant DL360 server that we have just virtualized using VMWare Converter 4 (p2v converter).

Now, the HP DL360 is running VMWare Esx4i, and on top of the hypervisor, the virtual server.

Should I uninstall HP System Tools like HP Array Configuration Utility, HP Array Diagnostic Utility, HP Proliant Integrated Management Log Viewer from the virtual server?

... Since we are running this server as a virtual server?

Do they need to be installed on the Esx4i ??

    Thanks

The VM won't have any access to the underlying hardware (it will see a VMware hard disk for example) so array monitoring tools in the VM won't work. You'll want to monitor hardware at the ESXi level or with a management card.

I usually uninstall the HP tools and software after a P2V because it will also remove their services that you no longer need.

With ESXi hardware monitoring in provided via CIM providers. If you select the host, then the configuration tab and then heath status, what do you have listed there for server components?

    what is CIM providers?

I do see all the server components when I go to health status. Does that mean no need for HP system Management tools

You can uninstall the HP management software as the VM not longer has HP hardware . . it has VMware hardware.

The Cim providers are a service installed on the ESXi host (if you have the HP version of ESX) - these will allow you to continue to interrogate hardware status for the physical hardware that the ESX is installed on, using toolslike HPSIM / Openview.

You'll need to add the ESX to you HPSIM server and specify the credentials os a ESX user account has appropriate permissions.

Of course root is the easy option . . but not the most secure (select the host in HPSIM, and find the credentials setting - can be done at discovery too)
