  • 1.  How to install ESXi 4 on an iSCSI target

    Posted Sep 11, 2009 06:30 AM

    Hi there,

I have a diskless IBM Blade HS22 that I need to boot off an Iomega NAS, StorCenter Pro ix4-200r. I've created an iSCSI partition on the NAS. I'm also able to detect that partition using iSCSI boot initiator from the blade. But how do I install it from the CD onto the iSCSI partition? when i boot off the CD, it tells me that it has no target to install to. This is correct since its not able to see the iSCSI partion. So what do I need to do in order to make the boot process understand that there a iSCSI target available?

I don't think you can boot from an iSCSI SAN - only FC is supported experimentally:

    Sorry.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. In that case how should I install it from ESX4.0? Is there a particular option that I should choose and perhaps modify?

    Thanks in advance.

AFAIK boot from iSCSI is not supported with ESXi.

Use flash drives to boot diskless ESXi's.
