  • 1.  How to find old logs?

    Posted Mar 08, 2010 09:16 PM

We have VC 4 and 3 esx4 hosts.

Yesterday a scheduled task need to clone a few virtual machine but there was an error on all tasks something about I/O, I didn't remember. Today I tried to find these logs but I can not find them. Are these logs need to be on VC server in All Users/App Data/Wmware/Virtual Center/Logs or something other place?

    Thanks

you need to have a mechanism to save your logs somewhere else. The reason for this is VMware creates a log, and when it gets full, it creates another one, this process up to log number 10. when the system fills the log 10, it erases the first one and starts over

for ESX, you can review the logs in /var/log

Is it possible to increase this number of rotated log files on VC and esx?

Can you recommend me some good way or tool to save logs somewhere else?

The old logs are compressed and you can find these *.gz files in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Logs (default location).

One way to generate logs bundle is: Log into VC Server, go to drop down menu File > Export > Export System Logs....

Another way to find all vCenter logs is to generate a log bundle: Go to Start > Programs > VMware > Generate vCenter Server log bundle. This generates a zipped folder containing all vCenter Server related logs.

    Thanks.
