How to create Cold Clone boot CD?

  • 1.  How to create Cold Clone boot CD?

I have downloaded the VMWare Converter, but have not figured out how to create a bootable CD for use with Cold Cloning. How is this done?

That would be an incredibly obvious answer if such a download option existed. I have checked all of the download pages and do not see any such link. If there is one, please post the URL.

In case you don't have an enterprise license for converter - read

Is there not a .iso file that I can download from somewhere? The procedure that was listed in the previous post is extremely long, and I'm not even sure it is for this product. After following it's steps, I used the CD that was created and booted to something that did not look like what the documentation for VMware Converted spoke about in the Cold Cloning section. There's got to be a more intuitive way to get to offline conversion...

AHhhhh BTDT, it's not obvious... you have to act like your downloading the Converter program itself, then after you actually get to the download page you can select the cold clone ISO.

    Its NOT obvious at all.

    1. Use the search function (i answered this question just few days ago)

    2. the official vmware cold converter iso is only available in the enterprise edition. This means you have to pay for it and download it after logging in. The post above is the alternative self-made version for free.

LOL - the self made Cold Clone CD looks like a regular Windows with Converter being just one app while the original CD can not even start a notepad to edit a boot.ini.

If you find the instructions to complicated - you must live with second best

continuum: It's not always about what's best (in the matter of most features) but what is supported and what not - I'm not sure but running VMware Converter inside a self-made WinPE might not be supported...

    Just consider some examples:

original CD fails because there is an old entry in boot.ini

original CD fails because it doesn't have the required mass-storage driver

very likely both cases would be no issue with a selfmade CD

Now do you really want to tell me that you prefer a supported failure over an unsupported success ?

I can't post to you the link, because is an authenticated session.

But if you have a correct license you'll find something like this :

A Zip file that includes the VMware Converter Boot CD and the peTool utility

Mine was not an obvious answer, maybe yours was not a correct question .
