    Hello

I took over a vmware esxi 5 server.

I need to evaluate on which hardware esxi 5 server is installed on. Is there any way to do it - apart from opening the case?

thank you  very much for any help

Visit below KB article. There are ssh commands to get the hardware details.

Use Putty to connect to your esxi server. Incase you fail to connect esxi using ssh. you will have to enable ssh, below is the guide for the same.

Hmmm... if you dont want to have a ssh enabled or a GUI user, you can use a vSphere client to connect to the server, you should be able to get almost every information abt the box by summary tab,  or clicking on Configuration-health status or in Storage Adapters or in Network adapters.

Just for clarification, what hardware are you trying to locate?

Thank you all for your help

You are right, most of the hardware is displayed by vphere.

I am especially interested in the Type of raid Controller, because there is no CIM provider installed. The output of

    the SSH console is only:

RAID bus controller Mass storage controller: Adaptec AACRAID [vmhba1]          Class 0104: 9005:028b

    Hi Michael,

Have you logged onto the vSphere client to your esxi host?

Once logged on click the host on the left hand pane

On the right-hand side click the configuration tab  , under there should provide details of what type of hardware you are running.

    Many tx

I like to use this. It doesn't provide all the info but it does give you some data quickly and you can export it to excel.  http://www.robware.net/

unfortunately even rvtools does not provide the exact type of the adaptec raid controller.

I Think I have to open it or just try

Doesnt even while booting up and entering the RAID bios gives you the information?
