  • 1.  Host Update seems to hang at 45%

    heya,

    I have VMWare ESXi 4.0 U1 (4.0.0 build 208167) installed on a Dell Precision 490.

Anyhow, I ran the vSphere 4.0 Host Update Utility on the host, and it found 5 updates.

I went ahead and installed these, and it's been stuck at 45% for around 30 minutes.

The status box says "Patching", and "45%", then below that:

    Patching 10.180.44.247
    Start uploading files to host
Metadata and binaries have been successfully uploaded
    Scanning the host completed
    Start installing patches
    Installing patches on 10.180.44.247 : ESXi400-201002402-BG, ESXi400-201003401-BG

I'm not really sure how to proceed - should I just let it sit there? Will bad things happen if I just give up and reboot the box at the local console? (There doesn't seem to be any way to cancel the update from the Host Update Utility).

    Cheers,

    Victor

I was wondering the same thing as mine was paused at 45% for over 1/2 hour. I decided to investigate and found the it was downloading the update files during that time. To check on the status, look at the following folder:

    Windows 7 / Win2008: C:\Users\\AppData\Local\VMware\VIU\logs

Look at viu-0.log which should give you an up-to-date status.

    I hope this helps others.
