  • 1.  Hidden Snapshots

We are using NetBackup 7 to backup our vm's. It does so by taking snapshots of them and backing them up. Every morning we use Virtualiation Ecoshell to verify that all snaps have been deleted. We usually find a few VM's that we need to clean up manually. There are some detected that show snaps but do not show it in vCenter client. For these we take a snap and are able to see the old and new snaps for cleanup.

We noticed today that there were some VM's that showed no snaps in the ecoshell or the snapshot manager but these server had issues that led us to browse the datastore. We noticed there were numerous snaps left over. Creating a new snap and deleting it didn't clean them up.

Is there a script or something that can scan the datastores for snapshot files? We're afraid there may be lots of left over snaps out there that we don't know about.

    Thanks!

I'm sure there is a way to find the information you need with a script.

However, I'd suggest you take a closer look at RVTools

Create new snap and select "Delete all"

Yes, I do that for ones that the the ecoshell can detect and it clears everything. But like I said, there are a few that we noticed today that nothing detected them except when we browse the datastore and noticed them. Creating and delete may work but I can't manually browse the 200+ VM's checking for delta files. This is why I am trying to find a script or something to scan for them.

I have a powercli script to find them for you..

    Check it out here:
