    Posted Sep 22, 2015 08:46 AM

we have an ESXI 5.0 installed on our Dell server and we have some virtual machines running. suddenly we got an error on Vsphere client.

"The EXSI host does not have persistent storage.

To run Virtual machine, Create at least one datastore for maintaining virtual machines and other system files."

so to fix this, we tried.

On Vsphere client(connected to the ESXI) -> configuration->storage->Rescan All... once the re-scan was done.

we are able to see the file was mounted on the datastore and it got lost in a minute. so it is not permanently mounted to the Datastore to access the Virtual machine.

Once we do the Re-scan again, we seen that the file was mounted to datastore and lost again.

mount and unmount is keep on toggling.

we need a solution to fix the issue or in worst case scenario we need  a way to retrieve the data(Virtual machines) from the Esxi machine.

    Kindly share the thoughts.

it should be a Disk error , it this is local storage which you are trying and the vm files are stored in local disk

make sure to check the logs on the ilo/ucs which ever the remote management tool you use..

please check the vmkernel log and vobd.log files

    Hi Nithy07cs055,

    Thanks for the response.

you're correct, we found that our one of the HDD(Local Disk) was corrupted.

But still other HDD are fine. Is there a way, where we can retrieve the data from the working once?

And any VM tools that recovers the Virtual machines from the corrupted HDD.

If no RAID configured, that it is difficult to rebuild it form the mirrored copy,

I am sure you would be having the full backup of the server , Make sure you try to restore it

Let me know if you require any help. Glad you found out the issue ,

Hope you will fix the issue soon. :smileyhappy:

Please provide details regarding RAID configuration. If there is no RAID, or it is RAID0, then data recovery is going to be your option.
