    Hi

Newbie to esxi 5.1  and to dell.

I have installed 5.1 (downloaded the image from VMWare) I have installed and it seems to be okay .  as in my local 1G nics are working. But I can't see my 4 x 10G ports nor I presume do I have any nice Dell VMWare integration.

I believe I installed on the local Flash device.

So I went to the support.dell site, found my server a R620, selected VMware 5.1 and then select the OS related drivers download.  which

    Drivers-for-OS-Deployment_Application_4N44V_LN_7.2.0.7_A00.BIN

THere was a windows one and a sign linux one.

Downloaded read the documention that talks about redhat yadda yadda...  Nothing there specific for VMWare .

I chmod it and try to run it .... guess what it fails...

I would prefere not to have to re install, even though I haven't doen that much config on it. I would prefer to understand why its not working.  I do use the update manager on my other boxs (they are HP)

So what am i missing !

    Thanks

    Alex

Edit - so for some reason i thought this was a dell forum !

I'm going to take it over there. but if there is any one here who can answer my question :smileyhappy:

Your best bet is to download the approved Dell build of ESXi from Dell's website.  this will include all the necessary VIB needed to load the devices on that particual model. (assuming that it is a supported model for vSphere from Dell)

    Hi,

ESXi doesn't not come with all drivers, so for dell you need to goto dell site and search ESXi 5.1 custom image which comes with all necessary drivers in it. Reinstall ESXi on your server using this image and hope it wipes all your errors and enjoy the ESXi 5.1

    Hi

Thanks this is sort of what i was looking for.  I am used to the hardware manufacturer providing drivers, so I would presume that dell would have provided these.

To the others, yes I saw the image file and I was hoping to learn ... ie how to apply drivers etc etc, not just download and image.

    Thanks

I salute your thought process in Learning, but sometimes it is just not worth the effort.  If the Manufacture provides the image, why recreate the wheel?
