  • 1.  HA error on one ESX server : No Active Primaries Found

    Posted Sep 09, 2008 01:41 PM

    Hi,

This error (: No Active Primaries Found) appeared on one of my servers last week and I have been unable to solve the problem. It appeared following some down-time arranged to install new switches to service the blade chassis which is home to the ESX blades.

I have a cluster of 5 blade servers, all running ESX 3.0.2, 63195. They have been configured for HA on VirtualCenter 2.0.2 for the past 6 months without any issues. The cluster hosts 21 VMs and is nowhere near capacity. I have searched this community but have been unable to find a solution. Below are the steps I have tried so far.

    1. Disable HA on the cluster and then re-enable - No success

    2. Reboot the blade - No success

    3. Run "service mgmt-vmware restart" on the blade - No success

    4. Remove blade completely from the cluster and add it back in - No success

The other solution given is to completely destroy the cluster and then add all the hosts back in one by one. This is not an option for me as I have live virtual servers running on the blades. Can anyone assist?

    ESX 3.0.2, 63195

    Virtual Infrastructure Center 2.0.2, 62327

    Hi,

I would revisit configuration of the new switches, It does sound you have some networking issue..

was your Vmotion traffic on separate VLAN?

With the new switches, is this still a case?

Not sure why but the blade started working in HA again yesterday for no apparent reason. Will monitor and update this thread if I find out what is going on.
