  • 1.  Fastest way to copy vmdk

    Hello all,

    I'm using VMWare ESXi 6.7 free installed on Dell PowerEdge R640 server with 10GB nic. Server is conected to d'link switch with 10GB ports. I have also a backup station with 10GB nic connected to the same switch. I want to copy whole VM to the backup station so tried WinSCP but i found that FileZilla is faster but anyway i get max transfer only about 160 Mb/s. My question is why it is so slow? Is there faster way to download vmdk files from the ESXi system?

    What you could try is to export the VM as OVF/OVA from the vSphere Client.
    Hint: Make sure that the VMs that you are going to export do not have an ISO image etc. attached to their virtual CD-ROM drive, but set the virtual CD-ROM to e.g. Client device.
