I have a vm that fails when smotion. The vm can be vmotion. Other vm's on the same esx host/cluster and datastore can be smotion.

After investigating the problem i found the follwoing in the vm's vmware.log

Oct 22 20:58:03.861: vmx| Storage VMotion: Invalid mode for disk: scsi0:1 'independent-persistent'. Must be 'persistent' or 'independent-persistent' for physical compatibility RDMs.

The disk is question is a vmdk file not a RDM.

The vm was smotion to this datastore 4 months ago, therefore the vmdk were created by smotion process.

The disk is set to independent-persistent mode.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Inependent disks are not being snapshot and that is probably the problem since SVmotion uses snapshots to move the disks. Try unmarking the independent box and then migrating it.
