Just because a system is not on the HCL dioes not mean that ESXi will not run on it but it means that VMware has not qualified that ESXi will run on the system and so will not support it if there are issues -

If it is on the HCL you should little or no problems installing ESXi -

    Hi Florian,

you probably know that the official Compatibility Guides page is http://www.vmware.com/resources/guides.html; you may find further info on VMware Support Insider page (http://blogs.vmware.com/kb/2010/12/locating-the-proper-driver-for-supported-io-devices.html)

Anyway you have also a "Community-Supported Hardware and Software" (http://communities.vmware.com/cshwsw.jspa) which means "best effort" on VMware side.

At last, even if it works it does not mean it is supported.

I know this is not an answer, let's wait for other posts.

    my 2 cents

    Sam
