  • 1.  ESX v4 on disc, ESXi v5 on USB - can this be ?

    Hello all.

I have a x3850 machine with a ESX v 4.0.0 on the disc, but would like to test ESXi v5.1 without disturbing the existing VMs.

Can I burn the flash USB with ESX v 5.1 and start the existing VM(s) under the new op sys, and then remove the USB and start the old ESX v4 ?

Does anybody tested this scenario ?

    Thanks.

Yes - that is possible. Actually I do things like that quite often.

Do not modify the virtual hardware - then your VMs will still work with the older platform

Thank you, mr Continuum - this is the kind of answer I was expecting,

... telling what to do (or to be able to do)

... and indicating WHAT NOT TO DO ... jejeje

I shall modify as less as possible, of course : the hard disk has 30 VM's, using ONLY 1000+ GB, so just to copy them again shall be ... uf

    Thanks. Sebastian.
