  • 1.  ESX Host Name in vCenter without domain extension?

    Posted Aug 16, 2010 04:39 PM

When adding an ESX Host to vCenter, the host name appears in the tree structure as host.domain_name as in esx6.test.com.

Is there a way to rename the host name so it appears in the tree just as esx6 (without the domain extension)?

    thanks

if you can rename only a label of a server in vcenter, this not works.

the name of server will mantain how you add, normaly is server.fqdn

you can check this configuration at Configuration > DNS and Routing.

you need register the hostname in your dns with FQDN.

why? FQDN is the way to go. Having FQDN name resolution is very key to keeping HA happy. Plus even atleast in vCenter 4.x if your try to add it in as shortname the FQDN will still get added.
