I have a Redhat Enterprise Linux 2.1 image installed on ESX server. I used vmware converter 3.0 in order to import it to vmware workstation.

The conversion is finished %100 but when I open the VM, I get "Error Loading Operating System"

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Haim Beyhan

Verify that the correct SCSI virtual controller is configured in the new VM.

Hello, I had the same problem with Redhat EL4 (ESX to workstation, "Error Loading Operating System" after successful conversion)

The problem was a conversion option. First time, the volume was rezised (shrunken) and splitted into 2GB-files. That doesn't work with Linux.

On second attempt by choosing Option "Maintain size" and no splitting, the converted VM booted without problems.

I think the problem was solved by the "Maintain size" option.

    Cheers,

    Simone

Sikoe, I am having the same error after a successful coversion (error free in VM Convertor). The guest os is Ubuntu. I am going to give it a second try as you suggested. it took me 12 hours to finish the coversion.

Do you guys get "cannot configure source image" error when you were going through the convertor wizard? Is that something I need to do or just ignore it?
