currently no, it only supports FC SAN disks - vmdk or rdm

The vcbMounter command, when run from the Service Console[/i], does support backing up VMs on local Direct-Attached Storage. On our standalone hosts we use smbmount to mount a samba share and then use vcbMounter to snapshot and full-vm-dump the VMs to the network.

Currently VCB is supported for SANs.. As stated you can use vcbMounter for your local storage..

For me esxRanger is a better solution, ok it costs but its not that much for what it gives you.. (or esXpress)

We use esXpress for our VM backups. The have a free version which gives you fulls and an inexpensive starter edition which enables thier delta technology. It may be a solution for you.
