My environment:  VMware vCenter Converter Standalone v4.3.0.  vCenter 4.0, esx 4.0.

I'm trying to run the converter against some of my powered off VMs (Windows 2008 R2, Windows XP).  I'm consistantly getting the error "Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine".

When I look at the diagnostic logs, the only error I see is:

    [#9] [2012-03-06 08:26:46.424 05280 error 'App'] Found dangling SSL error: [0] error:00000001:lib(0):func(0):reason(1)

    Thanks,

    Shane

This is not related to the real problem. Can you try Converter 5.0 instead of 4.3?

    Hi shane.presley,

    welcoem to the community .

Write down the Guest Operating System type as explained below.

“Edit Settings” in the VM, in the dialog then go to the “Options” tab. )     Change your VM configuration Guest Operating System type to a similar processor type (keep 64-bit or 32-bit) for a lower release of the OS (Windows 7 -> Vista -> XP, etc)     Convert your VM; if it fails, go back to step 2     Restore the VM configuration Guest Operating System type to the original saved in step 1
