  • 1.  Convert Win 2003 Server in Msoft Virtual PC

    Posted Jun 12, 2008 09:25 PM

Does anyone know If it's possible to convert a Windows 2003 Server residing in Microsoft Virtual PC

    using the VMware Converter (3.0.3-89816).

I've tried but I get the error, host system not recognised.

I'm trying to migrate images in Microsoft Virtual PC to VMware Fusions rather than having to rebuild them from scratch.

    Cheers

    Brian

Try installing Converter inside the running VPC virtual machine. Then choose to convert the "physical machine." I've had to do that with many VPC/VS virtual machines when cold importing failed. I don't know what it is with Microsoft's format that Converter doesn't like, but the "physical machine" import usually works.

    Asatoran,

many thanks for the excellent advice and apologies for not replying sooner.

I'm off sick and doing things when able.

I successfully connected to the Msoft VM using the the converter within the VM,(having failed to do so before doing a cold import)

however it still failed to covert the VM

I then tried to import doing a cold import again and interestingle the converter recognised the disk on the Msoft VM

but stil refused to convert the VM.

Finally I did some house keeping on the MSoft VM, emptying the recycle bin, deleting old files etc and you know what?

Performing a cold import worked, it tok approx.30 mns. I now have my Windows 2003 Server with my business intelligence

apps running on the Macbook pro using VMare Fusions.

Again many thanks for the valuable advice.

Could you attach the converter agent logs for the failed conversion.
