    Hi Guys.

I currently have 3 hosts each with 4 1gbit network ports. I want to create a LAG on a distributed switch (uplinks). On the Juniper switch we have, I will also create a lag.

What's the process for doing this?

We run a multi-tenancy environment, and I use to do this slightly differently on vmware 5.1. We use to create a distributed switch per customer, set the vlan and away you go. Bit more complicated this time around.

Are there any disadvantages of doing this? We want all traffic from all services going through these ports so we get full speed on backup/vmotion etc.

    Thanks

Since you have only 4 physical NICs and want host a multi-tenancy, you will may not be able to create multiple distributed switch and still have high availability.

So, my recommendation is to create a single distributed switch, use the Load Based Teaming (LBT) instead of work with LACP, and create multiple distributed port groups, each port group using a VLAN to isolate customers traffic. Avoid use LAG, and use LBT teaming, see why: Etherchannel and IP Hash or Load Based Teaming? | Long White Virtual Clouds

    Hi infusednz

Did you have a chance to read the blog post I referenced in my previous post? Do you have any additional doubt? If not, remember to mark answers as helpful or correct.

Thank you for your reply. I was leaning towards the way you mentioned. So I'd have one dswitch with a port group for each customer. I will review that blog and come back to you shortly.

    Thanks
