I would suggest you to take a look at the documentation and use the commad and practise. Either you can use vCLI ( Use can mange it remotely or do a SSH and run commads from there) or VMware powerCLI( a snap-in based on powershell) to manage the VMware Infrastructure
In addition to the above you can deploy vMA a free appliace which is loaded with pre-packaged vCLI commads
