I get this message after changing to 2.3

    • Starting VM collector test
    • Collection OK: 10.150.1.25. Start time: 2012-04-03 14:52:33 Duration: 2.948 seconds Samples: 332
    • Ending VM collector test
    • A collection from 10.150.1.25, begun at 2012-04-03 15:01:00, failed at 2012-04-03 15:01:03.

so, the test works fine, but when the real collection tries, it fails. And i don't see why.

i also get this message when trying to make rules:

the server cannot be contacted at this time.

Do you have any hosts that would use a License Server? (ESX 3/3.5)

There is an error in Usage Meter 2.3.0 when collecting from these older hosts.

If so, can you file a support request and Private Message me the SR Number?

    Thanks,

I just got VSPP newsletter email that contains this information:

Are you using vCloud Usage Meter v2.3?

The latest version of the Usage Meter enables Service Providers to track and report on the service usage by their individual customers. This capability will help you to produce accurate sales reporting so VMware sales reps can be more closely engaged in helping you to sell vCloud services. It will also help you better understand customer usage and types of workloads being consumed to improve targeting of development and marketing resources. There is also a vCloud Usage Meter patch release now available to handle in place upgrade of v2.2 to v2.3 of the vCloud Usage Meter and a fix for metering of ESX 3.5 hosts and vCenter Server 4.0. If you are already on v2.3, the patch can also be applied to fix issues related to v2.3.

Applying this patch to v2.3 should correct your problem.

As per documentation for Usage Meter v2.3,  ESX 3/3.5 is not supported.

I had identical issue and we were forced to reimage two 3.5 hosts to 4.1. After that the error disappeared.

Even though they are not supported, we should gracefully fail instead of aborting the collection from that vCenter.

Also, if you are setup to get emails on a failed collection, it can get annoying.

I think you still need more  research about the latest techs for additional sorts like cloud base computing.Companies who provide such a service usually have many servers to do this task like SalesForce.
