Change in the vSwitch Ports

Normally we need to reboot the esxi host if we changed the number of vSwitch Ports. Is that possible rather than rebooting the host only restart management agents. will it work or not?

I'm not aware of a workaround for the reboot.

I have tried this in the past but it didnt work for me..

I believe the  vSwitch port numbers are hard coded into the vKernel.  If you change the kernel parameters you  have to reboot the kernel which means a system reboot, similar to linux systems.
