vCenter

We have a hung task in our vCenter for "Protect VM".  It has been stuck at 69% for the best part of two weeks now and is starting to annoy me (it has completed as far as I can tell as there are no warnings on our Protection Groups for VMs without protection).  I have tried cancelling in the GUI, web client, PowerCLI and finally tried using the /mob/?moid=TaskManager to no avail.  The error I get from PowerCLI is:

The specified task with id '/VIServer=*****************/Task=Task-task-233417/' is not cancellable and cannot be stopped.

I get a similar thing from the mob website where by there is an Invoke option under cancel task but it has nothing to invoke.

Short of rebooting the VCSA (or restarting all services) is there any other method to try and kill off this task?

Why not just restart your vCenter, since that will not cause any downtime for your virtual machines? Anyway, the following blog post shows a alternate way to cancel a vCenter task, but not sure if will apply to your problem: How to cancel a hang task in vCenter or ESXi host? | Settlersoman - A settler in the SDDC world.

Well I certainly could just bounce vcenter but I was hoping there was a less agricultural solution to clear it out.  Main thinking was that although VMs will not be impacted access to the management plane is no longer just something that Ops and Engineering will do in a SDDC
