I was told by a AI there is a document called "VMware vSphere 8.0 Storage Guide", but, I couldn't find it. Can you please help me out?

I was told the doc should contain the following.

      • Page 24: "NFS 3 is the most widely tested protocol for VMware datastores."

      • Page 26: NFSv4 is recommended only for Kerberos or firewall simplification.

I have already checked out the doc. But, It doesn't contain such or similar statements below, as I was told it should.

    • Page 24: "NFS 3 is the most widely tested protocol for VMware datastores."

    • Page 26: NFSv4 is recommended only for Kerberos or firewall simplification.

Any other ideas on where I can find similar statements like those?

    Thanks

what kind of statements are you looking for? We are running nfsv3 for more than 10 years, no issues.
    Some statements from Broadcom?

I am looking for any links on documents or consensus stating on what version of NFS (v3 or v4) is recommended to use with VMware in NFS environment.

     Thank you!

It's really going to depend on what you need.

    • NFS v3: Supported since early versions of ESXi, but limited to single active connection per mount.
    • NFS v4.1: Supports multipathing, allowing multiple connections and better load balancing. Ensure your NFS target supports these features

I searched for the exact statement "NFSv4 is recommended only for Kerberos or firewall simplification." and found only your post.

current rule of thumb, use NFS3 unless you absolutely need something NFS4.1 will provide.  It's generally more of a headache using 4.1. The above is from the previously mentioned Broadcom KB.

Thank you for all your messages!

The rule of thumb below is what I am looking for as it appears to be more explicit on the issue. Are there anywhere else stating the same and I can refer to?

VMware/Broadcom has no preference, however, your storage vendor may have a preference.

NFS3 is indeed most tested than 4, but only as it has been around for longer. It says nothing really if you ask me. both 4.1 and 3 have proven itself to be stable.
