  • 1.  Can not reach to ESXi host

    Posted Sep 20, 2010 12:31 PM

    Hello All,

I have installed ESXi 4.0 on Dell R710 server. We use Extreme switches as core switch in the network. One NIC (NIC 1) out of 4 NICs of Dell R710 has been connected to tagged port of extreme switch.

ESXi machine has been configured with static IP. But still I am unable to access ESXi host from the LAN. However if I connect ESXi host with untagged port I am able to access the same.

I want ESXi to be connected with tagged port in order to configure guest VMs for different VLANs.

Pl. suggest the step to rectify the problem.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Hello,

Welcome to the forums. This post has been moved to the vSphere vNetwork forum.

When you configured your ESXi system did you set up the 'same' tag on the management appliance physical NIC? If the Extreme switch has a tag, the portgroup to which the management appliance is connected must also have the same tag, else the vSwitch does not know where to send the tagged packet.
