Can I enable VMWare-FT on vCenter VM?

Can I enable MWare-FT on vCenter VM?

If yes, is it supported by VMware?

Is there any special recommendation i have to take aginst vCenter?

vCenter requires 2 vCPUs to be a supported configuration and FT doesn't support SMP. You can build out vCenter in a VM with a single vCPU and enable FT on it, and in smaller environments it will work well - but remember this will be an unsupported configuration.

In addition if you enable FT for vCenter, what about your database, does it have the redundancy as well? You need to understand how all the bits and pieces fit together to determine if FT is even an option.

Hello,

The vCenter Database is hosted on a vSQL Clustered "VM" that part of the same vSphere Infrastructure that currently running with 1 vCPU and 3 gig of RAM.

The porpuse of making the vCenter as FT becuase the depends on it is increasing on every new features VMware release, vDS vDR, VDI, ect ect. I thought, why not enabling VMware FT on the vCenter? But in this case, I think it's better for me to create MSCS Cluster between Physical and Virtual and forget VMware-FT on vCenter

If its 1 vCPU (mine is actually 2 vCPUs) and your SQL database is clustered, etc. Then sure, why not use FT on it. I would.

PS: I've tried vCenter Server 4.0 with a single vCPU but is quite slow and unusable... But in my case the DB was on the same VM.

But the minimum requirement say 2 vCPU... so you have to choose to have a "unsupported" VC (with a single vCPU) or a FT VC :smileyhappy:
