  • 1.  Can an orphaned vm be recovered?

In vSphere, I see an orphaned vm that was accidentally deleted (I believe).
I do not see it from esx however.

Right clicking, there are no options to register it or clone it, nothing.

Looking on the disks, I find nothing that is this vm or size that it was, around 500GB.

It's possible that it's still on one of the datastores in terms of deleted files but I'm not sure how to look for deleted files on esx.

Does this effectively mean that it's gone, non recoverable now?

    vSphere and esx are 6.7.

I'm aware I could take it to a recovery service but that's not an option. It's not terribly important as this is just a test setup to learn from but I would like to understand if in this kind of situation, that vm would simply be gone.

You might get in contact with the user

On the other hand why not perform a simple restore from the backup

Nothing on this is backed up, it's just for playing around with, testing, learning.
