  • 1.  Broadcom, Intel NICs and Flow Control

    Hi All,

As I understand it Intel NICs have flow control set to "On" or "Automatic" by default, while Broadcom NICs are set to "Off" by default. So I have two questons about this:

    1. How do I go about changing the flow control setting on Broadcom NICs, I'm running ESXi 4?

    2. Is there any problem using both Intel and Broadcom NICs together on a dedicated iSCSI LAN as long as I make sure the above setting matches for all?

    Thanks in advance,

    DT

After a little more research I came across this KB article which makes it sound like the default setting is to negotiate flow control along with speed and duplex settings. So in that case it wouldn''t matter what type of physical nics I have, and I wouldn't have to do any configuration on the VMware side so long as my switch ports are set with flow control on. Can anyone confirm that?

    Thanks.
