  • 1.  Best way to connect VMFS3 datastore with extents to ESXi5

Let's see if I can explain this.  I have 2 enviornments, ESX 3.5 and ESXi 5.  Both are connected to the same SAN storage.  On 3.5, I have a VM that is using a single vmdk on a VMFS3 datastore.  That datastore is comprised of 4, 500GB volumes on the SAN.  So, in the datastore properties, it shows the 4 extents that make up the 2TB datastore.

I need to attach this datastore as it is to our new ESXi 5 system.  I can easily detach from 3.5 and reattach to 5 on the SAN side, but from there, I'm not sure what I need to do to recreate this data store on ESXi 5.  Hope that all makes sense, let me know if you need more information.  Thanks.

So, nevermind.  I just created a new VMFS5 datastore, copied the vmdk and reattached it to the VM.
