Has anyone out there used NetBackup to copy your VDR backups to tape? If so how did you pull it off?

How did you setup NetBackup? Have you restored the VDR appliance and tested to make sure it worked?

I have managed to back it up and then restore it, however the disk will NOT mount after the restore.

Thanks in advance for your time.

We use Netbackup client installed on the VDR appliance to backup its backup repositories.  After deploying the appliance and before powering it on, we increased the size of the drive from 5GB to 10GB to insure we have space for the Netbackup install. Once we power on the VDR, we use fdisk to create a new partition on the unused space and mount it as /openv and link /usr/openv (since Netbackup likes to install under /usr/openv). We then install the rpm packages needed by Netbackup (compat-libstdc++, libXp, libattr, libacl, tcp_wrappers, xinetd, rsh-server), stop and start the xinetd service, insure the xinetd service started correctly, install netbackup for Redhat2.6 (NetBackup_6.5_LinuxRedhat2.6.tar.gz, NetBackup_6.5_ICS_LinuxX86.tar.gz (PBX only), NB_6.5.3.tar.gz, NB_6.5.3.1.tar.gz), then start the nbclient service.  Make sure you update the Netbackup bp.conf file for your Netbackup environment. Before you start a Netbackup job to backup the VDR repositories, insure no jobs such as backups, restores, integrity checks or reclaims are running. Then bring down the DataRecovery service and you can then kick off the Netbackup job.

Rather than installing something directly on the vDR appliance add a Linux machine NFS share as a datastore. Use the NFS datastore for your destination vDR VMDK. Install you netbackup agents etc on the Linux NFS machine. Installing anything to the vDR appliance could introduce issues. It would not be a supported configuration at any rate and would require reinsatallation for updates to the appliance.
