Topic Name : Manage Advanced Settings in the VMware Host Client

Publication Name : vSphere Single Host Management - VMware Host Client

    Product/Version : VMware vSphere/6.7

    Question :

I have a single guest running on a 6.7 host and cant seem to get it to delay boot. I would like to delay boot of the guest for 3 minutes, but any setting i apply under: Host, Manage, System, Autostart wont work. Ive also tried settings under Guest VM options, Boot Options, Boot delay.  Nothing seems to delay the boot of this single Guest OS.   Please help

Why do you need to delay it, for what scenario?

Same question as Duncan. You've got a single host with a single VM. What's the use case here? I don't know there's an option for you here from an ESXi standpoint unless you cobble some home-grown script together. And if you're going down that road, I'd probably do it in-guest as a pre-boot script of some sort rather than hacking ESXi.

I have the host set up in a remote site kit, where upon being started up, the windows guest needs to be delayed by at least 3 minutes to wait for the cisco router to boot up first. Other alternative is to delay the UPS group by 3 minutes, but i thought this option would be better.

    Thanks

Remember that the boot delay in the VM settings is in milliseconds. So enter 3 minutes as 180000 milliseconds.

you need to keep in mind that if you delay the VM through the VM bios that this will also apply to EVERY restart, so also HA initiated restarts would be impact, even if there was no issue with the network. So although it may help solving an issue, it could also impact overall downtime.
