    Hi All,

    I am busy with a project to configure a new ESXi cluster running 6.5. Installation of the cluster went well, so to the VCSA (although it got redeployed 4x).

    I have set up 3 separate vSwitches as follows:

    * vSwitch1 (Management by default)

    * vSwitch2 (VM network)

    * vSwitch3 (vMotion - given 10.0.0.1-4 for vMotion)

    No hassles there, and the vmkernel ports are also set to the correctly. DRS is set up correctly.

    When trying to do a test host vMotion I get the following:

    Migration [167772163:2368765662810976526] failed to connect to remote host <10.0.0.2> from host <10.0.0.3>: Host is down.

    vMotion migration [167772163:2368765662810976526] failed to create a connection with remote host <10.0.0.2>: The ESX hosts failed to connect over the VMotion network

    The vMotion migrations failed because the ESX hosts were not able to connect over the vMotion network. Check the vMotion network settings and physical network configuration.

    Since this is the first installation I have done since 2011, I need some help. What am I missing here? Does something need to be set up on the new LAN switches in use? Have I missed a configuration step?

    The physical NICs are configured as Active/Standby with no VLANs on the vSwitch.

    Thanks!

    How did you set the switches up? have you assigned the uplink NICs correctly, and configured the port groups correctly? are you using vlans?

    ...it was a VLAN in use that wasn't provided to us!

    Thanks!
