I currently have a host that has 2 virtual machines setup already.  I need to add 4 hard drives to empty slots I have available on the host AND I need to add additional RAM.  Will this cause my existing VMs any problems?  The additional space is needed to build another VM so I don't need the existing ones to utilize the additional hard drive space but one of the current VMs is my Active Directory box so I can't have it impacted by the needed changes.

If you are expanding hard disk and RAM capacity of the ESX host, it won't have any adverse impact on the VMs. Only thing to consider here is the downtime for the VMs while the host is undergoing maintenance/upgrade.

So the safest way to go about it, is to shut down the existing VMs, power off the host and then perform the upgrade. Once upgrade is done power on host and ensure all is well, then the existing VMs can be powered on, followed by creation of the new VM which is to utilize the additional capacities.

No impact over all. Only Downtime of the servers. Only make sure you will configure the raid on it too. So better take care of the existing partition so it would not impact that partition else you are gonna loose everything.

dont change any existing configuration Create new partition and raid separate. Avoid making change in anything in existing one until you did it before.

    Thanks.
