  • 1.  Add new Host to resource pool fails

    Posted Sep 12, 2007 01:43 PM

    Hello,

we are trying to add a host to a resource pool and it fails with "The operation is not supported on the object"

The host is configured pretty much the same than the other two. Only difference I can see is that the vSwitches are in different order and one of them has more ports than on the original hosts. Could this be a reason ?

    Any other ideas ?

Do you mean "adding a VM" to a resource pool ?

Or adding a host to a DRS cluster ??

The latter. Adding host to DRS cluster.

    Hello,

Solved it: The host had to removed from inventory and re-added into the target resource pool.

PS: I keep answering my questions myself. Possible reasons:

    1) Incorrect wording

    2) Some other netiquette problem

    3) Hygiene problem

    4) Really tricky problems no-one ever imagined to encounter

If it is not 4 , could someone please fill me in on how to elicit answers in this forum

However odd the steps may seem, I can fully confirm this solution. The problem only appeared, if the machines to be moved were part of an existing resource pool. Moving them in and out of the resource pool also helped.
