vSphere Storage Appliance

  • 1.  3Par Deduped Savings

    Greetings,

We have a 3Par 7400 running OS 3.2.1 (MU2).  On this SAN, we created TDVVs (Thinly Deduplicated Virtual Volumes).  They are presented to our ESXi hosts with one datastore per LUN.  We are running vSphere 5.5.

My question is: How can we see the usage savings in vSphere?

In VMware, we see this (757.88 used):

On the 3Par, we see this (27.411 used):

    Best,

    David

    Hi David,

Do you have Oneview for vcenter installed ? I would expect you d be able to see that information in the plugin, but not sure of any way to get that info into the storage summary tab.

I don't have dedup on our array so i can't confirm for you.

    Hi Rich,

Yes, we have OneView for vCenter "kinda" installed.  HP is trying to get it to work.  I guess I was looking for someone who was already using it so I could know what to expect "free space" wise.

    Thanks for the reply.

    Hi Dave,

Sorry, don't think i can help to much then, we have one view and you can see all the array information in the storage tab plugin, but this is different to what you see in the vcenter summary (due to white space reclamation etc). it basically shows the same as using the 3par console and looking at the space saving for the exported vvol, summary looks like a fat volume (no space saving information).

Id expect you d see the dedup savings there.

Unfortunatly at the moment we are choosing AO over dedup.

let me know if you find this out as id be interested.
