  • 1.  VmWare VCenter Standalone and Windows 11

    Hi,

     

    I used Vcenter Standalone to virtualize my physical Windows 11. The VM was created successfully. I used Workstation 17 to boot the Win 11 VM, but I got the following message in the status bar:

    Windows 11 x64 is not installed on this virtual machine. Insert the installer disc and click "Resart VM."

    There is an EFI VMware Virtual SCSI Hard Drive (0.0), but the Win 11 VM won't boot from it.

    Any idea, please?

    HI,
    first of all you should check on the settings side of VMware Workstation that the VM you imported has efI / uefi bios as boot method, as in the screen you attached it seems that the UEFI SCSI disk exists but cannot be used as the boot method , otherwise the problem can be found elsewhere, for example: corruption of the vmdk disk file or windows not correctly installed on the VM

    Hi,

    you need not only check the setting in Workstation but has your PC the requirements to run Win 11?

    And I dont understand that you used vCenter to virtualise and then you run it in Workstation? ...

    And is your Win 11 installation in the VM correct? How have you get your physical Win 11 to VM?

    Hi,

    The VM is not intended for WS. I will upgrade my physical workstation with a better SD and install VMware vSphere 8. Then, I move the VM to it. I need to ensure the VM is working before changing the SD. That is why I am trying with VMWare Workstation.

    The installation of Win11 should be correct because VCenter Standalone makes a VM of a physical machine. OS will be copied to the VM, but I do not know what changes the VCenter do for boot-up.
