  • 1.  How to report a bug, without an active support agreement?

    This is a BUG REPORT:

VMWare Fusion (for macOS) ruins the default browser selection pop-up window in System Preferences in macOS Monterey (macOS 12) and in System Settings > Desktop and Dock.

After using VMWare Fusion with Windows-based guest machines for a while, it will try to insert the names of the browsers in the virtual machine, to the browsers dropdown menu of the host which is used to set the default browser. I'm a Home user so what I reported regarding this bug with my free license for non-commercial use seems to have evaporated in the air. In other words, it was not taken into account, or simply ignored. (This might also be an issue or a non-issue with earlier macOS versions than 12.x, but since I use only macOS 12 and later, I can confirm this annoying bug only for macOS 12 and macOS 13 at this time)

Reformatting the drive and reinstalling the system does (falsely) seem to solve the issue temporarily, but the issue re-occurs sooner or later as long as you keep using VMWare Fusion with Windows guest VMs.

I am not sure if it can occur also with Linux guests with a GUI.

    Take it or leave it.

I may or may not post this bug report on other platforms depending on the incident-response policy of VMWare. I hope they fix it and everybody wins.

Unfortunately, there really isn't a way. to report a big.

I don't see that issue, but then again, I have all the host/guest application integration turned off.  I suspect that it's a feature and not a bug.

    Hi,

Sounds like a feature that I personally don't use.

Have a look at the following, "Virtual Machine" menu  -> "Settings" -> "Default Applications"

Is the top option checked? eg. "Open your Mac files and web links using Windows applications".

Also verify the following: "VMware Fusion" menu -> Preferences -> "Default Applications" tab and make sure that the open web pages bit is unchecked.
