    Posted 2 days ago

Updated my workstation today which is always a nail biter when it comes to VMware. I thought I had waited sufficient time for this to be sorted by now but apparently with all the Broadcom merger hooha I didn't wait long enough. In any case I am sitting here with broken vmmon vmnet on my workstation. What is the current fix for this?

What Linux distro and kernel version did you update to?

VMware doesn't do a good job of keeping up with Linux kernel versions. They typically don't update the kernel modules except when they have a new release, and that's been a long standing problem with running Workstation on Linux.

Linux is also not exactly known for keeping the kernel interfaces stable between releases (almost to the point of not caring about any module developers other than those working on the Linux kernel).

Suggest you look at mkubecek's GitHub repository of updated kernel modules https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules

Yes. I was able to sort it yesterday afternoon using the git method and compiling vmmon vmnet.

It's kinda comical though, just a couple lines of C code to munge. Seems like something they should push

out as an update ahead of new kernels and supporting code releases. It's not like updates to kernel systems and

Linux distros are a closed source mystery.
