  • 1.  Differences between .vmsn and .vmsd files

    Posted Feb 24, 2024 09:56 AM

Hello guys, i am investigating about files related VM.

Briefly i ll go to directly my question.

in .vmsd file there is information about snapshot state, hierarchy and etc.

in .vmsn file there is also information that host can use this information to run revert restore operations.

My question why there are the same information in each file ? why vmware use this files ? or what are the main purposes of these files.

Thanks a lot for reading my question.

Thank you for your replying. But in the documentation there is not deeply explanation for fully understanding. To sum up ".vmsn" file stores RAM content on it. But ".vmsd" is just for metadata information. (Please correct me if i am wrong)
