The question is similar to e.g. "Re: vSphere replication appliance no networking detected" except it's about the add-on, the "Additional vSphere Replication Server" - which is deployed slightly differently vs. the regular one, and doesn't seem to have the requisite vami helper or something like a "network manager".
How does one configure networking and set it to a static IP via VMware Console, if the appliance can't get a DHCP IP and otherwise isn't accessible over the network (and thus can't be configured via its management URL)?
To re-iterate:
- the vami helper doesn't come with add-ons, it's not part of the distribution
- I poked around Ubuntu forums, looked for netplan, network manager, other options - none of those seem to be available.
- Tried to tinker with /etc/systemd/network/10-eth0.network and configure it similarly to one in a working vrms - ended up borking it even worse where if an IPv6 address was showing up before, and now doesn't.
- The entire SNAFU stems from an apparent bug appears to have stumbled upon here and where following VMware instructions in deploying a VRMS OVF (primary - or add-on) and setting a static IP on it - results in a botched network configuration where all or most settings used during deployment are ignored. (The bug appears to exist for a number of years and affect a lot of people on reddit, SO, and similar sites - yet given VRMS is essentially free, it's understandable VMware wasn't in a hurry to fix it...)
So, how do I set a static IP on this thing?
